Water cuber

   Description

  Water cuber was the swimming center during the Beijing OlmpicGame . Most of money to build this building was donated by Chinese and oversea Chinese.

  History

  It stands west of the Birds’ nest and covers the building area of 79,532 square metres.It’shight is 31 meters ;width and length are both 177meters .It’s events are swimming , diving . The constructon time is from December , 24, 2003 to Janunary , 28,2008.Total cost is 1.2 billion yuan and about 850 million yuandonated.The permanent seats is 4000 and 2000 is removable and temporary seats is 11000.

  This seemingly simple ‘box ‘ is integrated Chinese traditional culture with the modern science and technology.In traditional chines culture , ‘the heaven is round while the earth is square’ design ideas created the ‘water cube’, and it goes well with the circular ‘birds’nest’.The‘square’ is the most basic form in ancient city of china,which embodied the virtues and ethics in chinese culture as the representative of the social rules of living.The water cuber reflects the combination of the multifunctional requirements and the architectural function.
